چکیده

Methods Form our CMR database we identified all patients with previous Glenn or Fontan intervention who underwent a targeted CMR studies from May 2005 to September 2014. QAPCs was calculated using through-plane phase-contrast as QAPCs = (left pulmonary veins flow + right pulmonary veins flow) (right pulmonary artery flow + left pulmonary artery flow). Values were normalized to body surface area and indexed to aortic flow (QAPCs/aortic flow). Surgical history and clinical status was recorded.

Cardiac magnetic resonance and the need for routine cardiac catheterization in single ventricle patients prior to Fontan: a comparison of 3 groups: pre-Fontan CMR versus cath evaluation.

OBJECTIVES This study investigated whether cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and echocardiography (echo) can replace catheterization (cath) for routine evaluation prior to Fontan and under what circumstances CMR and cath are used together. BACKGROUND Routine cath prior to Fontan has been utilized for years; noninvasive methods, however, may be sufficient. METHODS This study reviews clinical ...

CMR-based planning of catheter and surgical interventions for aortopulmonary collaterals before Fontan completion: pilot study of 5 cases

Background Aortopulmonary collateral arteries (APCAs) are frequently observed in single ventricle patients. However those patients require staged surgery toward Fontan completion, APCAs are believed to cause evil situations against Fontan circulation such as impediment of anterograde pulmonary blood flow, volume overload for single ventricle and decrease in systemic blood flow. Therefore, inter...

Aortopulmonary Collateral Flow Is Related to Pulmonary Artery Size and Affects Ventricular Dimensions in Patients after the Fontan Procedure

BACKGROUND Aortopulmonary collaterals (APCs) are frequently found in patients with a single-ventricle (SV) circulation. However, knowledge about the clinical significance of the systemic-to-pulmonary shunt flow in patients after the modified Fontan procedure and its potential causes is limited. Accordingly, the aim of our study was to detect and quantify APC flow using cardiovascular magnetic r...

The role of cardiovascular magnetic resonance in candidates for Fontan operation: Proposal of a new Algorithm

BACKGROUND To propose a new diagnostic algorithm for candidates for Fontan and identify those who can skip cardiac catheterization (CC). METHODS Forty-four candidates for Fontan (median age 4.8 years, range: 2-29 years) were prospectively evaluated by trans-thoracic echocardiography (TTE), Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) and CC. Before CC, according to clinical, echo and CMR findings,...

Improvement of computational fluid dynamics simulations of flow in patients with total cavo pulmonary connection and predicting interventional outcomes

Background Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) can be utilized to evaluate hemodynamic characteristics in patients with surgically implemented Total Cavo Pulmonary Connection (TCPC). The simulation process is however often complex and rarely takes into account characteristics such as pulmonary resistance and Aorto-Pulmonary Collaterals in analyses to predict outcome of interventions. The aim of ...
